As I slowly surface from the rollercoaster that is new parenthood, I’m preparing and hyping myself up to jump back into my working life as a photographer. After what feels like a very long hiatus from normal life during my pregnancy and the pandemic, it’s time to re-enter the world. Fresh starts give way to new beginnings, hence I’ve decided to hone in on what I love about photography and creating images and represent this with a new website.
The last few years have been a huge journey. In the summer of 2020 during the pandemic, we moved back to the UK after having lived abroad for nearly 5 years. After going through a miscarriage just before our arrival it was a very turbulent time to be going through major transitions. Fortunately shortly after, we got pregnant again and 9 months on, in July 2021 came the arrival of our beautiful hurricane Reuben. Safe to say I had A LOT of time for self-reflection for where I wanted my work to be heading once I got back to it.
After experimenting with fashion photography whilst living in Bali for a couple of years, I decided that I needed to head back to where my passion truly lay: documentary photography, telling stories, and capturing what life’s truly like, warts and all. My experience of getting married and having a baby shone a light on what I believe is most important – love, family and friends. What better way to present that than through my work, and voila! The new website was born.
My son Reuben is a force of nature, and becoming his mama made me realise how absolutely incredible it is to watch this little man change right before my eyes. However how fast time flies! By the time he was walking, I had forgotten what life was like when he was crawling. This really made me want to document life’s small moments, those seemingly insignificant moments that are actually what make up life’s threads, holding together all the memories you share together. As not only my son but my muse, he’s taught me how to look out for all those little things that we might normally miss. I connected the love of photographing my own family to wanting to photograph others, allowing them to see and remember life as it truly was.
I first started shooting weddings whilst I was living in Vietnam and loved the energy of the whole day, from start to finish you can feel so much love and joy. Being a part of that was something I wanted to continue here in the UK, and throughout the world at all those exotic destination weddings.
With the style of my work and the kind of person I am, I knew I wanted to make this a part of my life. To represent these days with all the magnificence that they’re entitled to, and being able to translate feelings into visual memories. Creating images that will bring smiles to faces drives me daily.
I’m so excited to be returning back to work and creating again, meeting new faces and being back in the world. So bring it on 2023, I’m ready for you!
Photography for me is getting to capture and show the true essence of life.
Life is built up of many small and wonderful occurrences that will go unnoticed, and it gives me great joy to record these.
