Lewes Register Office Wedding Photographer

so you're having a Lewes Register Office wedding! Here's the low down on everything you need to know

Why Choose Lewes Regsister Office for your Wedding

If you’re planning a wedding ceremony that feels personal, unfussy and full of character, Lewes Register Office is a brilliant choice. Set in the heart of Lewes, it’s surrounded by a town that’s rich in history, so much charm and that slightly arty, independent energy people fall in love with. From historic streets and old buildings to views stretching out towards the South Downs, Lewes feels calm, beautiful and genuinely special without ever feeling overdone.

As a Lewes Register Office wedding photographer, this is one of those places where everything just works. The ceremony feels intimate and meaningful, guests can step straight outside into a town full of life, and there are loads of nearby spots for relaxed couple portraits or celebratory drinks. It’s ideal if you want a wedding that feels grounded, authentic and full of real moments.

Spaces Around Lewes Register Office

Winterbourne Suite (up to 15 guests)

Cosy and intimate, perfect for really small ceremonies. Soft blue and silver tones, garden views and a calm feel. It’s on the first floor with no lift, so worth bearing in mind if stairs might be tricky for you or your guests.

Evelyn Room (up to 20 guests)

Light, airy and on the ground floor, with lovely views over the gardens. Neutral décor that works with any style, plus comfy seating that keeps things relaxed rather than formal.

Ainsworth Room (up to 60 guests)

A great option for larger ceremonies. Also on the ground floor, with elegant décor, a central aisle, chandeliers and big windows looking out onto the terrace and gardens.

Newton Room (up to 60 guests)

Bright, welcoming and full of character. The aisle leads to a beautiful carved fireplace, with rich red and gold seating adding a bit of drama while still feeling warm and inviting.

Top Tips for your Lewes Register Office Wedding

★  Keep it simple
This place really suits intimate, no-fuss ceremonies. Focus on the moment, not loads of extras

★  Think about guest numbers early
Each room has a very different feel and capacity, so it’s worth choosing your space based on how many people you actually want there, not just what looks nicest online.

★  Plan a short wander for photos
Lewes is beautiful straight outside the door. Five or ten minutes is plenty to get lovely portraits without feeling like you’ve disappeared.

★  Dress for cobbles and walking
Lewes streets are charming but uneven. Shoes you can actually walk in will make a big difference.

★ What’s Included
Your ceremony fee covers the room hire, registrars, two legal certificates and one commemorative certificate.

★  Parking heads up
There’s no dedicated parking at the register office. Paid parking is available at the school car park opposite Southover Grange, on nearby streets, or at Lewes Station (about a 10-minute walk).

★  Garden Rules
The public gardens at Southover Grange are managed by Lewes District Council, so no dogs or alcohol are allowed there. If you’re unsure about anything garden-related, LDC are the people to ask.

★  Ceremony Days
Ceremonies run Monday to Sunday, which gives you loads of flexibility.

★  Book Ahead
You can book up to three years in advance, which is great if you’re planning ahead or locking in a meaningful date.

★  Payment
Fees are payable in full at the time of booking, so it’s worth having that budgeted early on.
