Why Choose Preston Rock Gardens for Your Couple Portraits

Preston Rock Gardens is an ideal place for couple portraits whether it be for a pre-wedding first look or a location for an engagement session. There are many little nooks and crannies and you’d be sure to find a perfect spot or two or seven for some stunning photos surrounded by nature, whether atop the rocky cascade or nestled within its many blossoming trees and winding paths. In the spring and summer, the flower beds burst with life and it’s filled with colour and magic.

Living in Brighton for only a short time I’d never had the chance to go and look around and discover all it has to offer until I met Jens & Brigitte. On our first encounter, it was clear that they were big fans of being in nature and the outdoors and Preston Rock Gardens was a place that they held dearly for these reasons and their chosen pre-wedding location.

Jens & Brigitte got married in late spring and going against traditions they decided to meet before their wedding and do a first look at Preston Rock Gardens and do their couple portraits before the ceremony. It was a perfect afternoon bathed in sun surrounded by the flora and fauna of the space.

Preston Rock Gardens is not only perfect for a couple portrait session, but it’s said to be Britain’s largest municipal rock garden! Its inspiration is said to have come from the Chinese story of the Willow Pattern. You can discover its beauty through the winding stone path, rocky steps, and rustic bridge as you find many levels of the garden that all meet at the bottom where lies the pool formed by a small waterfall that sparkles in the sun, and find your perfect couple portrait opportunity in the magic that lies inside Preston Rock Gardens.

Getting there & Accessibility

Preston Rock Gardens is situated opposite Preston Park on Preston Road, there is limited on-street paid parking available in the area. Very close to a few bus routes you can hop onto the  5, 5A, 17, 270, 271, 272 which stop at Preston Park. If opting for a walk it’s only 22 minutes from Brighton Station.

With an uneven walking terrain and raised levels, it’s not great for those with walking restrictions or people with pushchairs.

Photography for me is getting to capture and show the true essence of life.
