Patterns Wedding Photographer

so you're having a Patterns wedding in Brighton - Here's the low down on everything you need to know

Why Choose Patterns for your Wedding

If you’re a couple looking for something untraditional, quirky and a bit off-script, Patterns is a brilliant choice. Set in a former Victorian shelter hall right on the seafront, directly opposite Brighton Pier, it’s a venue with real history that’s been reworked into a creative, unconventional space. It suits couples who don’t see themselves in a classic wedding mould and want their day to feel more like them rather than a run-of-the-mill wedding.

Receptions usually take place in the upstairs bar, which is bright, characterful and full of original stained-glass windows, giving it loads of personality without needing much styling. There’s also a private sea-view terrace, perfect for drinks, fresh air and chat, whatever the season.

The party side of things

This is where Patterns really comes into its own. There’s a raised stage that works beautifully for a top table earlier in the day, then easily switches over for a live band later on. Because Patterns is a nightclub by night, you’re getting a proper sound system, with CDJs and decks already in place, ready for all party antics. Add in a permanent photo booth guests can use all evening, and the whole thing feels less like a formal wedding and more like a really great night out.

From a Patterns wedding photographer point of view, it’s ideal for couples who want energy, movement and atmosphere — a wedding that leans into fun and lets the party do what it does best.

Spots for Couple Portraits Around Patterns

★ Brighton Pier
A Brighton classic for a reason. Movement, colour and that unmistakable seaside chaos that makes photos feel alive.

★ Brighton Seafront Carousel
A little hit of nostalgia and colour. One of my favourite spots when open in the summer.

★ Brighton Beach
Open space, pebbles and the sound of the sea. It’s a bit wild and lets you let loose, be free and feel the salty air.

★ The promenade
Long stretches, railings, passing people and space to walk side by side. Perfect for those natural in-between moments.

★ Ice cream break
A great excuse to slow down, laugh and give your hands something to do. Always delivers.

★ The Lanes
Twists and turns, colourful shop windows, and hidden corners. It gives photos personality without even trying.

★ Royal Pavilion
If you’re up for the short wander, this iconic Brighton staple is a must.

Top Tips for your Patterns Wedding

★  Pick the vibe first, then the numbers
Patterns works beautifully for up to 85 guests for a sit-down dinner or around 200 for a more informal, standing reception. Decide early whether you’re dining or dancing (or both).

★  The photo booth is a big win
Guests love it. You can run it pay-as-you-go or go all in with unlimited free play all night, which always gets used way more than you think.

★  Choose how you want to feed people
You’ve got loads of flexibility here, drinks-only receptions, light catering, or a full sit-down dinner all work.

★  Catering can be in-house or your own
Patterns can provide catering, but you’re also welcome to bring in your own. Options range from three-course sit-down meals to family-style dining, food bowls, sharing platters or BBQs.

★  Use the upstairs apartments
There are five apartments upstairs that can be rented, which is incredibly handy for getting ready, crashing afterwards or keeping things all in one place.

★  Factor in the bar spend
Alongside the hire fee, there’s a minimum bar spend, usually between £3,500–£7,500, depending on the time of year. Worth building into the budget early.

★  Know your finish time
On Friday and Saturday, you get the space until midnight. Sunday to Thursday, it runs later — until 2am, which is a big bonus if you want to keep the party going.

★  Lean into the nightclub setup
This place knows how to party. The sound system, CDJs and decks are already there, make the most of the club vibe.
