Nymans Wedding Photographer

so you're having a Nymans wedding! Here's the lowdown on everything you need to know

Your Honest, No-Fluff Guide to Nymans : Featuring Cecily & Steve’s Dinosaur-Filled Wedding

Nymans is one of those wedding venues that just gets it right. It’s romantic, atmospheric, and honestly beautiful in every kind of weather, even with a cheeky bit of rain. And for couples like Cecily & Steve, who brought their whole personality (and then some) to the day with every dinosaur detail imaginable, Nymans became the perfect backdrop for a celebration that was equal parts elegant and joyfully chaotic.

As a Nymans wedding photographer, this is exactly the kind of wedding I adore, full of character, full of colour, full of little moments that feel completely theirs. Dinosaurs, rain, picnic blankets, the ruins, the gardens, it all worked in perfect harmony.

Cecily added a few fun dinosaur details, subtle, playful and very “her.” Things like themed accessories, a handmade Jurassic Park bouquet, and a brilliant Jurassic Park umbrella moment when the rain came.

What I loved most was how naturally those details sat within the gardens and ruins. They added personality without ever clashing with the space. Nymans is great because it lets you be you without overshadowing anything.

Why Nymans Works So Well, Especially for Creative Weddings

Pure Magic of the Ruins

The Gothic ruins are honestly one of the most atmospheric backdrops in Sussex. The way the light filters through the stone arches, the greenery that surrounds its impressive stone walls, it feels intimate, emotional, and cinematic all at once.

Even when the weather decides not to fully cooperate (which was the case for Cecily & Steve’s day), the ruins still create this gorgeous, moody backdrop that turns a bit of rain into something romantic rather than stressful.

The Endless Variety of the Gardens

One of the best things about Nymans is how close everything is. You walk a few steps, and suddenly you’ve got a whole new vibe:

  • manicured walled gardens

  • woodland paths

  • soft, wild greenery

  • bold architectural textures

  • wide lawns perfect for group photos

It means you get a full and diverse photo session without needing to disappear for ages. Perfect for couples who want natural, candid photos without missing out on time with guests.

Beautiful in every Season

Nymans never looks “off”:

  • Spring: Blossom, soft colour, and fresh greenery

  • Summer: Bright, lush, full of energy

  • Autumn: Warm tones, depth, and gorgeous atmosphere

  • Winter: Dramatic, moody, and incredibly romantic

Cecily & Steve’s day had that classic sunny-but-showery English combo, and honestly? It suited Nymans perfectly. The rain gave us beautiful soft light, the gardens still glowed, and the whole day kept its warm, relaxed feel.

Where to have your Ceremony

As a Nymans wedding photographer, the Loggia is one of my favourite ceremony spots to capture. It’s a beautiful Gothic-style space with these incredible arches and rose-covered walls, all tucked inside the Sunk Garden. It’s fully licensed for ceremonies, and honestly, it feels like something out of a film, romantic, intimate and surrounded by the most beautiful seasonal flowers. After your ceremony, enjoy some canapes and champagne on the surrounding lawns. Pure magic.

It photographs beautifully in every season, which is exactly why so many couples choose Nymans for their wedding day.

Spots for Couple Portraits Around Nymans

★ The Gothic Ruins (inside & along the archways). Perfect for both intimate moments and more editorial-style shots.

★ The Main Stone Arch at the entrance to the ruins

★ The walled garden pathways, full of romance, colour, and soft foliage.

★ For some intimate shots, head to the long woodland path.

★ The Italianate Loggia, ideal for a more editorial look. Beautiful even on cloudy days.

★ Surround yourself with lush greenery at the lower garden steps.

★ For romantic and timeless portraits, head to the rose gardens, but keep in mind this is seasonal.

★ Wide, clean shots with space to breathe on the open lawns with the house in the background

★ Head over to the viewpoint overlooking the valley for sweeping scenery and soft, natural light.

★ For gorgeous texture and shade, there’s a covered walkway by the ruins.

★ Search out the ivy-covered walls that surround the area and buildings.

★ The clean lines and soft tones of the stone courtyard near the entrance.

★ The colourful pockets of the seasonal wildflowers frolic and run wild.

★ The woodland clearing near the orchard. A lovely, quiet area with warm dappled light

Top Tips for your Nymans Wedding

★  Golden hour on the lawns is unbeatable — soft, warm, glowy.

★ Embrace the weather! Nymans looks incredible rain or shine. Bring a couple of clear or themed umbrellas and trust that the venue will work its magic.

★  Make the most of the sunk garden for drinks. Post-ceremony champagne and canapés here always feel relaxed and elegant.

★  Leave time to explore the gardens, and it’s all so close together that it won’t take you away from your reception for too long.

★  Consider a weekday wedding, Nymans is open to the public during the day, so weekday weddings often feel a little quieter with more privacy. Even at weekends, though, the ceremony areas feel surprisingly tucked away.

★   You don’t need to over decorate, the space itself is already STUNNING, so let it do what it does best.
