so you're having a Florence House wedding! Here's the low down on everything you need to know

Why I love being a Florence House Wedding Photographer

Tucked into the rolling hills of the Sussex countryside, Florence House feels like it’s been plucked from a storybook. Surrounded by six acres of wild gardens, sea air and stillness, it’s a place where weddings unfold with ease and soul.

As a Florence House wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to witness the quiet magic this place holds. Every visit brings something new—a glimmer of light through the trees, a stroll through the grassy fields, laughter carried by the wind. It’s not just a venue, it’s a home. And when you marry here, it becomes yours for the day.

One of the most wonderful things about Florence House is the freedom it offers. The entire space is yours to shape, to dream, and to celebrate however feels most true to you. And yes—your dog is welcome too!! This place embraces the people (and pets) you love most.

Whether you’re planning a laid-back gathering or a nights full of celebration, Florence House offers a backdrop that’s both relaxed and deeply beautiful. As a Florence House wedding photographer, I can honestly say it’s one of those rare places that feels both grounded and magical—a canvas that effortlessly reflects your love story.

From morning light to golden hour, there are countless corners to explore.

Let me show you some of my favourite spots…

Areas for use at your Florence House Wedding

The Main Reception Room

Florence House is fully licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies, so you can say your vows all in one place—with no need to rush or relocate. The ceremony room is bright and full of charm, with three tall French doors that open out onto the lawn, letting in soft, natural light.

It’s a beautifully versatile space—chairs can be arranged in whichever direction suits your vision, and you’re free to style it in a way that feels true to your vision. Wild flowers, soft drapes, candlelight—it’s yours to imagine. The room comfortably seats between 100–120 guests, making it perfect for both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations.

And once the vows are done, the room doesn’t lose its purpose—it can transform for the next part of the day. Whether you use it later for dancing, relaxing with your guests, or even as a quiet retreat while the party unfolds elsewhere, it’s versatile in its uses for the remainder of the day.

Front Lawns

Step out from the main reception room and you’re greeted by the wide openness of the front lawn—spacious, sun-drenched, and full of possibility. This large outdoor space is perfect for setting up a marquee, with plenty of room left for food trucks, lawn games, or even a bouncy castle if you’re feeling playful.

It’s the kind of setting that lets your guests wander, pause, and enjoy the fresh air between toasts and dances. Scatter a few tables and chairs, pour a glass of something cold, and let the afternoon drift into evening as your dining space transforms into a dance floor.

The Walled Garden

Tucked just behind the house is the walled garden. You can slip into it through the double doors at the back of the house, or take the slower path through the arched stone doorway that curves round from behind. In the centre sits a little fountain, so if you’re planning to do your confetti moment here, be prepared to part ways for a few seconds as you navigate around it—but it makes for the most joyful reunion halfway through.

This space is perfect for post-ceremony canapés and drinks. Giving the chance to share hugs and stories with your guests. It has an intimate energy tucked away, but still open to the sky.

As a Florence House wedding photographer, I love this spot for its soft light and tucked-away charm. And if you’re dreaming of a group photo with a twist, this is the place. A birds-eye view from the upstairs roof captures the whole scene beautifully—it just takes a little careful climbing and a bit of bravery (trust me, it’s worth it!).

Inside Florence House

As you step through the big wooden doors, you enter into a hallway that’s both cosy and spacious. There’s room here for a few guests to gather, take a seat, and soak it all in—and it’s the ideal spot for your guest book, a few welcome drinks, and maybe some flowers to set the vibe.

It makes for a perfect little hideaway for the bride before the big moment. Tucked just out of sight, you can take a deep breath and peek through the door before walking down the aisle. As a Florence House wedding photographer, I’ve seen so many lovely, quiet moments unfold here. From nerves, hugs to tears of joy.

You also have full use of the dining space and drawing room, you can choose to gather here before or after the ceremony, and upstairs are all the extra rooms that can be hired out for up to 31 guests. The house is truly at your disposal to be used however you wish!

The Cottage

You’ll have the use of this 3-bed cottage, which lies on the edge of the front lawns, the evening before and day of your wedding. It’s a perfect spot to get yourself ready for the day ahead.
